The first group of this year's inductees for the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame were announced on Wednesday at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina. Hall of Fame Chairman Reed Andrew comments on this year's class. "This is the second year Chairman of this committee and it's a great board. We've come up six individuals (that are) outstanding in their industries, quite a broad range of industries," he said. Six deserving individuals will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2017, and the first three names were announced. "Art Mainil a grain producer, and Inland Terminal fellow from Weyburn, Tim Oleksyn a cattle producer and big into research for the livestock industry, and of course the late George Cooper who was a producer involved in the Saskatchewan Livestock Association, (Canadian) Shorthorn Association, and the Regina Bull Sale and an innovative grain farmer from Foam Lake," Andrew said. Three more inductees will be announced in January at Cropshere in Saskatoon. The formal induction will take place in April.
