60 vehicles were stopped during Saturdays check stop but only one road-side screening was given as well as one full vehicle inspection. This check stop was the start of more that will be happening between now and Christmas.

11 warnings were issued for various subjects during the check stops however most drivers were able to pass through with minimal issue.

"Its just to enlighten the public that we are out there. And with Christmas around the bend we are wanting to make sure everybody is appropriate with their license and registration," said Sergeant Hughie Gilchrist with the Weyburn Police Service. "The big one is definitely the impaired driving and alcohol related offenses and that people are getting rides to where they need to go."

Gilchrist adds that it is important to find a ride if you are impaired and need to go somewhere. You can always call a friend or take a taxi.
