The Toronto Blue Jays fought off a late comeback by the New York Yankees Sunday with one of their own, as they won 4-3 with a walk-off single. The game saw the Yankees score against the Blue Jays for the first time in the series between the two squads at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Jays had a 2-1 lead heading into the ninth inning, when closer Roberto Osuna gave up two runs, letting the Yankees take the lead. Toronto responded when Melvin Upton Jr. was walked to open the inning. He moved to third on a Kevin Pillar single, then scored thanks to an error on a bunt from Ezequiel Carrera. With runners on first and third, the Yankees walked Josh Donaldson intentionally, loading the bases for Edwin Encarnacion. His single through the right side of the infield scored Pillar, making it a 4-3 game.

The Jays are still 5 ½ games back of the Boston Red Sox for first in the American League East. Toronto still maintains their hold on the top AL wild card spot, leading Baltimore by 1 ½ games. The magic number for the Blue Jays to clinch a playoff spot is now five.

The Blue Jays and Yankees wrap up their series tonight at Rogers Centre. J.A. Happ will get the start on the mound for the Jays, while the Yankees reply with Luis Severino. The game starts at 5:00 p.m. Saskatchewan time. You can catch all the action on Saskatchewan’s home of Blue Jays Baseball, AM1190.
