The box lacrosse season for Weyburn teams got underway on the weekend, with three teams on the floor.

The Weyburn Razorbacks junior squad played their first-ever games Saturday in Prince Albert, as they took on the Predators in a doubleheader. The Predators would spoil the party, though, winning both of the games.

Both of the games ended in scores of 20-4. In the first game, Ryder Hignett had a pair of goals for the Razorbacks, with Landon Redman and Jack Missal also finding the back of the net. In the second game, Weyburn had goals from Hignett, Missal, Hunter Willoughby, and Sam Borschowa.

The next game for the Razorbacks is Wednesday. They will host the Regina Barracudas in the Tom Zandee Sports Arena for their home opener.

The U17 Thrashers were at home for two games, hosting the Swift Current Rampage on Saturday.

In the first game, which started at 10:00 a.m., the Rampage would rally back from a deficit and went on to win 8-5. The Thrashers had two goals from Max Vennard, with Brody Morrice, Wyatt Mickler and Tayven Nordin also scoring in the loss.

The second game, in the afternoon, was a back-and-forth affair, with the Rampage ultimately coming out on top, winning 10-9. Alex Labrecque, James Ashworth, and Vennard all had a pair of goals in the loss. Brody Morrice, Callie Dammann and Nash Hignett also scored for the Thrashers.

The U17 Thrashers are back in action on Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Regina.

The U15 Young Fellows Thrashers were on the road, travelling to Moose Jaw where they played the Moose Jaw Mustangs in a doubleheader Saturday.

The Mustangs would jump out to an early lead in the first game of the day and then held on to beat the Thrashers 6-2. Both of the goals for the Thrashers came courtesy of Hudson Maloney.

The second game would see the Thrashers down after two periods, but a late-game rally wouldn’t be enough, as they lost 5-4 to the Mustangs. The goals for the Thrashers came from Maloney, who had two in the game, and Shiloh Maloney, who also had two.

The U15 Young Fellows Thrashers will be heading to Swift Current this coming Saturday to take on the Rampage.
