A call about a person violating conditions of release led to an arrest and a number of charges on the weekend.

The Weyburn Police Service said they received a report around 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning of a person who was violating the conditions of their release. Officers attended the scene to investigate, and a vehicle with a number of people inside.

“They identified a 36-year-old male driver of the vehicle, and arrested him for breaching his curfew conditions,” explained Corporal Ryan Cherniawski of the WPS. “Upon the male’s arrest, found on this person was approximately $570 worth of cocaine.”

The officers then found further evidence in the vehicle they said indicated the cocaine was for the purpose of trafficking. Open alcohol was also allegedly in the vehicle.

“The accused there was charged with failing to comply with the condition of their undertaking and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Criminal Code, and then lastly, having open alcohol in a vehicle and that’s under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act,” Cherniawski added.

The suspect will be appearing in court on these charges at Weyburn Provincial Court on December 12th.
