The number of people in hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan continues to decline. In the update provided by the provincial government Sunday afternoon, there were 150 people in hospital receiving treatment. This was down by five from the update provided Saturday. Of those 150, 36 were in intensive care, which was down by three from Saturday.

Since the start of November, the number of people in hospital is down by 72, and those in intensive care has declined by 19.

There were 62 new cases of COVID-19 reported Sunday afternoon, along with one death connected to the virus. There were also 181 recoveries, bringing the total number of actove cases throughout the province down to 1,047.

Here in the South East region, there were seven new cases reported on Sunday along with 38 recoveries. The number of active cases throughout the entire South East is now 141, with seven active cases in the Weyburn area, which is the South East 3 subzone. The 141 active cases is the highest of all regions in the province outside of Regina and Saskatoon, and the 157.9 active cases per 100,000 people is the highest in the province.

Vaccinations in the South East continue to lag behind much of the province, with 329 doses of the vaccine administered in the region between Thursday and Friday. Just 63.8 percent of the total population of the South East region is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which is the lowest among all the regions outside of the far north.

It is anticipated the provincial government will be rolling out the plan for administering COVID-19 vaccines to those between the ages of 5 and 11 today. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, Cominarty, was approved for use in the 5-11 age group by Health Canada on Friday. Previously, the province announced it would be expecting 112,000 pediatric doses of the vaccine.
