It was a high-scoring affair at Crescent Point Place Wednesday night, as the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings and Yorkton Terriers combined for 73 shots and 10 goals in regulation. It would be the Terriers coming out on top, though, winning in a shootout 6-5.

Despite the result on the scoreboard, head coach Cody Mapes wasn't disappointed with the effort, as a number of players were making their first appearances for the preseason in a Red Wings uniform, including Drew Molde, Jerome Maharaj and Logan Greenough.

"We've kind of tried to implement a few things and stuff, and it seems to be going, definitely going, in the right direction," Mapes said after the game.

Molde stood out, scoring the first goal of the game for the Wings, while Maharaj scored the lone goal for the Wings in the shootout on a goal that was described by play-by-play commentator Nick Nielsen as "Datsyukian", as the 04-born forward acquired from Sherwood Park of the AJHL undressed Yorkton netminder Blake Sittler.

Yorkton would be the first ones on the board in the game, as Cade Kennedy scored 3:44 into the game. Weyburn didn't take too long to reply, though, with Drew Molde finding the back of the net 55 seconds later. Max Henderson and Blake Betson had the assists on the goal.

Yorkton would take the lead just 23 seconds into the second period when Tate Schofer, acquired last Friday by the Terriers in a trade with Weyburn, scored a shorthanded marker.

Weyburn would reply with Liam Fitzgerald netting his second of the preseason just over three minutes later on the power play. Ryley Cyca and Dallen Oxelgren had the helpers on the goal.

Yorkton regained the lead shortly afterwards, as Aiden Knutson beat Adam Kelly, making his preseason debut, to make it 3-2 for the visitors. Kelly would finish the night stopping 29 of the 34 shots he faced.

At the 7:05 mark of the second, Betson would tie the game up as he got the puck past Sittler on the power play. Oxelgren had the assist on the goal, his second of the game. Then, Fitzgerald gave Weyburn their first lead of the game with 5:27 left to play in the second, assisted by Henderson.

In the third period, Anthony Domina put the Terriers back on even standing with Weyburn as he scored 2:32 into the frame.

Weyburn's Max Monette would give the home side the lead exactly ten minutes later, though. His goal, on the power play, was assisted by Lucas Schmid and Oxelgren, who finished the night with three points.

The Terriers would find a way to even things up, though, as Domina scored his second of the night with just 47 seconds to play in regulation, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, neither team was able to score, meaning a shootout was needed to determine the winner of the game.

The Terriers would score on their first two chances, with Jye Zawatsky and Cade Kennedy scoring on Kelly. At the other end, Maharaj was the only Red Wing able to score on Sittler, with Fitzgerald and Carter Briltz both being stopped.

The Red Wings will now have a day off before they play their last game of the preseason Friday night. They welcome the Notre Dame Hounds to Crescent Point Place.
