The Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Radiothon raised a record-breaking $1.15 million to enhance pediatric intensive care at Saskatchewan's only pediatric intensive care unit.

The radiothon, presented by CIBC Wood Gundy, was broadcast on radio stations across the province on Tuesday and Wednesday. The donations will be used to provide better access to pediatric transports for children living in rural and remote communities, allow specialists to care for kids remotely with virtual robotics, saving kids' lives with cutting-edge technology and equipping the medical staff with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

“The past two days of Radiothon have been a series of miraculous moments. The remarkable contributions made will allow our Foundation to ensure that we have the most up-to-date pediatric and maternal equipment in Saskatchewan’s only dedicated maternal and children’s hospital,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The radiothon got a huge boost from philanthropists Gord and Barb Broda of Prince Albert. They matched all of the donations up to $150,000.

The Jim Pattison Children's Hospital is an integral part of the province. Each year, over 80,000 children and babies visit the hospital, which is nearly 220 patient visits each day.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit itself has over 650 patient visits annually and 62 per cent of those patients come from outside of Saskatoon.
