A goal by Sutton Verot with 1.3 seconds remaining would be the difference maker, as Team Red beat Team White in the Eric Calibaba and Friends Memorial Red & White Game Sunday night. The game was the final part of the 2023 Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings training camp, which started Friday morning.

“There was some exciting games, it was competitive,” Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes said after the game about the camp. “I think we’re looking for a little bit more out of some of the new guys coming in, but at the end of the day, they’re young and at their first camps and stuff.”

The game Sunday night would see Zach Vaillancourt score twice and add an assist for Team Red. Also tallying for Red were Grady Sterling-Ponech, Lucas Schmid, Braigh LeGrandeur and Liam Fitzgerald.

At the other end of the ice, Team White had a pair of goals from Jackson Murphy, with Jacob Lamoureux, Logan Greenough, Charlie Munroe and Elijah Anderson also finding the back of the net in the loss.

With the camp over, the coaches are faced with the decisions on who to keep in camp heading into the preseason, which opens up on September 5th against the Terriers in Yorkton. The Red Wings will play their first preseason home game on September 9th, when the Estevan Bruins come to town.
