The Senior Girls’ volleyball team from Weyburn Comprehensive School was looking to capture provincial gold when they headed to Swift Current for the SHSAA 5A Provincial Championships Friday. The Eagles would qualify for the medal round, before running into the team from Saskatoon Holy Cross in the quarterfinals. The Eagles would come up short in that match-up, falling to the eventual tournament champions.

The Eagles were in a pool consisting of Saskatoon St. Joseph, Regina Miller, North Battleford Comprehensive and Regina LeBoldus for the round-robin.

Weyburn fell 2-0 (25-18, 25-10) in their opener against St. Joseph, then bounced back with a 2-1 (25-20, 20-25, 15-13) win over North Battleford. The first day of the tournament was then rounded out for the Eagles with a 2-1 (18-25, 25-10, 15-11) loss to Miller.

The final round-robin matchup for the Eagles was against LeBoldus Saturday morning, where LeBoldus took the match 2-1 (14-25, 25-21, 17-15). With a round-robin record of 1-3, Weyburn qualified for the medal round and would be up against Saskatoon Holy Cross in the quarterfinals.

In the game, Holy Cross came out on top, winning 2-0 (25-19, 25-13). From there, Holy Cross would defeat Regina miller in the semi-final, and then Saskatoon St. Joseph in the finals to take the provincial title.
