The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce held its annual President’s Dinner Wednesday night, named the new board for the year, and handed out the prestigious Golden Spike Award.

The Golden Spike Award, first presented in 1982, honours people who have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and volunteerism in the community. This year the recipient was Duane Walkeden.

Walkeden was recognized for his role in the community over a number of years, including the Weyburn Young Fellows. A member of the organization for over 30 years, he has held several executive positions, including serving as president. He has also been on the board of the Weyburn Silver Seals, the Weyburn Credit Union and the Souris River Snowmobile Club.

The board members for 2024 were also presented during the night. Chad Bailey with Re/Max Weyburn Realty was sworn in as the president of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.

“We are thrilled to welcome our new slate of directors for 2024”, said Bailey. “Their dedication and passion for supporting local businesses will be invaluable as we work towards our mission of fostering business growth and development in Weyburn and district. We look forward to working together to create a thriving business environment for our members.”

Joining Bailey on the board are the vice presidents, Trent Nelson with TRON Engineering and Jordan Szczecinski with FCC, the past president Steven Schuck of Schuck Law Firm, and eight directors: Rodney Gill (RBC), Faye Billington (Southeast College), Todd Hastings (Don’s Plumbing and Heating), Shandel Clark (DC Construction), Laila Bader (Prairie Sky Co-operative), Ryan Skjerdal (MegaDry Disaster Restoration), Nilesh Jejurkar (Microtel Inn & Suites), and Lori McIntosh (Twine & Twig).
