The first full weekend of games in the Moose Mountain Minor Hockey League took to the ice this weekend, and both of the U15 Weyburn teams in the league were in action.

Friday night, the Knight Dodge Wings entertained the Estevan Knights at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. The Wings would skate to a 4-3 victory.

Kieran Farden opened the scoring for the Knights in the first period when he scored with 5:18 left to play in the period. Weyburn answered back, as Wyatt Chinski scored with just 2:45 to play in the frame. Connor McIndoe had the assist on the goal. Then, Ryder Hignett made it 2-1 for the Wings with 1:30 remaining in the period. Kai Fisher and Jack Schurko had the helpers on the goal.

Estevan replied before the period was over, though, as Jacob Deitz scored with just 26 seconds remaining in the period.

Weyburn regained the lead late in the second period, as Kai Fisher would score a goal of his own. Hignett had the helper on the goal to make it 3-2 Weyburn after 40 minutes.

The Knights evened things up again early in the third period as Kashton Jesse scored just 2:57 into the frame. Weyburn would regain the lead with 6:02 to play, as Kale Chinski scored to make it a 4-3 game.

Saturday, it would be the Co-op Wings on the ice, as they travelled to Oxbow to face the Huskies.

Despite scoring three goals in the third period, the Wings weren’t able to overcome the deficit and fell 5-4.

Braxton Stinson gave the Co-op Wings the lead with 8:29 to go in the first period, assisted by Dayne Ozmun and Evan Duke. Before the end of the period, Peyton Tendler would reply for the Huskies to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes.

In the third, Oxbow scored a trio of goals to jump out to a 4-1 lead. Carson Snell, Austin Swatsky and Grayson Brock all found the back of the net.

Weyburn would start to eat into the lead in the third, starting with an unassisted goal from Evan Duke at the 7:49 mark of the period. The Huskies opened the lead back up to three goals just over four minutes later as Reese Copeland scored on the power play to make it 5-2.

Weyburn would score a power play goal of their own with 4:31 to play, as Duke scored his second of the period, assisted by Stinson. Then, AJ Bratrud scored with 2:13 remaining in the game to close the gap to 5-4. That is, however, how the scoreboard would remain, giving the Huskies the win.

Sunday, the Co-op Wings travelled to Carlyle to face the Cougars. There, the Wings ran into a tough team, and were down early in the game, as the Cougars picked up a 12-4 win.

Chase Himmelspach opened the scoring for Carlyle, as they scored seven straight to get the game started. Also scoring in that stretch was River Onufreychuk, Reid Goudy, Draeton Morrissette, Jaden Fischer, Ryder Benjamin and Dawson Galbraith.

Weyburn replied with 2:43 o play in the first, scoring two goals in 27 seconds. The first was from Harrison Meier, assisted by Markus Paquet. Then, Rob Shumlich would score to make it 7-2 Weyburn.

Morrissette’s second of the period, though, would cap off the period, giving the Cougars an 8-2 lead after 20 minutes.

The Co-op Wings came out firing in the second period, with Duke scoring just 47 seconds in. He was assisted by Ryker Harrison and Stinson on the goal.

Carlyle would then put three more up, with Tucker Wyatt, Fischer and Sean Kachur all scoring to make it 11-3 after the second period.

The two teams exchanged goals in the third period, as Galbraith notched his second of the game for Carlyle, and Duke scored for Weyburn.

The Co-op Wings will be back in action on the 14th when they host the Redvers Rockets at Crescent Point Place. The Knight Dodge Wings are off until November 20th, when they will play the Huskies at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena.
