In just 10 days, families around Weyburn will gather around the Christmas tree, opening gifts, and sharing moments that will become memories. Those trees will either be artificial trees or natural trees and here in The Opportunity City, there is one place many people look to for their natural trees: The Young Fellow Club of Weyburn Tree Lot.

Lee Tochor is a member of the club and is in charge of the tree lot, which is located on 2nd Street, behind the Prairie Sky Co-op Food Store. He said the entire venture is aimed at helping out in the community.

“We volunteer all of our time, and every dollar that we do earn, any dollar that is profit in this, we do redistribute back to the community, and it’s just wonderful for us to be able to do that,” Tochor explained of how the tree lot operates. However, aside from opening weekend, he noted traffic to the lot hasn’t been as busy as in past years.

“Our numbers are not quite where we’d like to be, and we just encourage everybody that would like to come out, to come out, and support us by buying a tree,” he added.

Whether someone is buying a Christmas tree for the first time, or whether they have been a regular at the tree lot since its first year of operation, Tochor said they will work with everyone in getting the right tree for them.

“We’re going to ask basic questions,” Tochor clarified. “Whether you’re setting up right away, the size of your house. Things like allergies, pets, anything like that. We’ll make sure we get a tree that accommodates you, and we’ll give you tips along the way.”

As for what to do with the tree after Christmas, the Young Fellows help out there as well, with the trees being picked up on January 7th. Those who purchase a tree need to leave it on the curb in front of their house on that date.

With just a little over a week left until Christmas, time is running out for those who want to purchase a Christmas tree. The Young Fellows Tree Lot will be open until December 23rd. The hours of operation until then are 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. this Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. this Sunday. During the week, it is open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and then on the last day, December 23rd, it will be open from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
