A stellar performance between the pipes last week has earned recognition for a member of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings.

Goaltender Dazza Mitchell was named the Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week in the SJHL on Monday afternoon. The award comes after the 19-year-old netminder from Regina put up two spectacular performances, including a 36-save shutout last Monday against the Melville Millionaires.

Mitchell followed up the shutout with a 41-save performance Saturday night as the Red Wings beat the Nipawin Hawks 4-2.

Over the course of the two games, Mitchell stopped 77 of the 79 shots he faced and finished the week with a 1.00 GAA and a .975 save percentage.

Mitchell and the Red Wings will be looking to gain some ground in the SJHL standings as they look to improve their position over the final nine games of the season. They are back on the ice Wednesday night in Nipawin as Weyburn opens a three-game road swing that will include two games in La Ronge on the weekend.
