The Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative announcing the next step in the construction of the Credit Union Spark Cinema.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with DSI to actually oversee the design and construction of the new theatre,” cooperative president Ryan Janke told Discover Weyburn. “Justin (Iverson) and his whole team are really excited about this. They share the vision, the passion, all the values that we do, and they couldn’t be more thrilled to be on board with this project.”

DSI Contracting is a local firm that has handled a number of various projects in and around Weyburn, including residential, commercial and agricultural contracts.

“We are so excited to begin the next step of the design phase for the new theatre,” said Iverson in a written release. “This project represents the culmination of a dedicated group of people’s hard work, creativity and passion for the community, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with them to bring their vision to life.”

Having a company based in Weyburn helps to provide something special to the project, Janke hinted.

“It speaks to the strength of our community that we have so many construction options, so many partners who can work with us on these things because a lot of communities don’t have that, but Weyburn does, and we should all be very proud of that,” Janke added.

The WTCSC is planning to create the theatre experience people leave Weyburn for here in the community. Janke said they will have everything from reclining seats to bigger screens, to state-of-the-art projectors. There is a party room also included in the current design.

The old Soo Theatre was torn down earlier this year, and it is planned to have the construction of the new theatre starting in the spring or early summer of next year.
