When the Weyburn Police Service responded to a call regarding a man whom staff at a restaurant found to be possibly impaired, and passed out, they weren’t necessarily expecting it to result in a number of charges stemming from two separate locations.

Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype explained the staff at the restaurant had tried to wake the man up, but were unable to, and that was when they called the police.

“Police attended and tried to awaken the individual and deal with them appropriately,” VanDeSype stated. “That individual was very uncooperative and became assaultive. For that incident, the police took him into custody and he was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.”

The deputy chief emphasized the words ‘that incident’, as shortly afterward, the WPS received a call from a local hotel.

“It turned out to be the same individual that they were calling about, as he had damaged a room,” VanDeSype elaborated. Police say the man had been staying at the hotel, and when they arrived to investigate the call concerning the damage, came across what was described as contraband.

As a result of the investigation at the hotel, in addition to the charges from the incident at the restaurant, the man was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance, and charges connected to the damage to the room.
