The Weyburn Eagles high school football squad got a little taste of game action on Friday.

They had a controlled scrimmage against their rivals, the Estevan Elecs.

Head Coach Darren Abel says the team will look to some seniors for leadership. "For sure, Austin Lund, he's an outstanding lineman. Our nosetackle, and one of our key offensive tackles. He'll be probably one of our best players," Abel told Discover Weyburn. "Reese Skjonsby, as well. One of our starting linebackers, and one of our quarterbacks, too, we'll be looking for a lot from him."

Abel says he picked up a lot of information from Friday's session. "We did see a lot of good players, a lot of good things, a lot of good things to build on, too. So we're looking forward to Thursday against Estevan, you know, where things are real, and the season begins."

Thursday's game will be played in Estevan.

Meanwhile, if you want to be part of the Weyburn's junor football program, they are looking for more referees. If you're interested, you can contact Rob Stephanson Junior, at robstephanson_jr@hotmail.com.
