The SJHL Showcase is underway in Warman. The Showcase is a chance for all 12 teams in the league to play in front of scouts from the collegiate and pro-levels. The neutral ice games count towards the regular season standings, and in some cases, can help teams by eliminating road games that would otherwise create a fair amount of travel.

Two games opened the showcase Sunday. In the first game, the Humboldt Broncos suffered their first loss of the season, when they fell 3-1 to the Melville Millionaires. In the second game, the Battlefords North Stars shut out the Melfort Mustangs 4-0.

There were two Midget AAA showcase games played yesterday as well. In the first game, which featured two teams comprised of players born in 1999 or later, Team Black came away with a 5-2 win. Yellow Grass’ Kane Altwasser, who played on Team Black, picked up two assists in the game. Altwasser plays his midget hockey with the Notre Dame Hounds. Team Red included Weyburn’s Wyatt Arndt, who is playing Midget AAA hockey with the Prince Albert Mintos.

In the game for players born in 2000 or later, Team Grey won 2-1 over Team Blue. Team Blue Included Weyburn’s Kyler Douglas, who plays midget hockey in Moose Jaw.

The Showcase continues Monday. The first game sees the Estevan Bruins taking on the Humboldt Broncos. The Melville Millionaires will then take on the Battlefords North Stars. The Nipawin Hawks and the Yorkton Terriers then take the ice for the late afternoon game, followed by the Flin Flon Bombers and the Weyburn Red Wings in the late game.
