The municipal election in Weyburn is fast approaching. The main polls will be held on election day, October 26th. For those who will be unable to cast their vote at one of the four polling stations in the city, advance polls and special polling begin today.

The advance poll starts at 6:00 p.m. today at City Hall, and runs until 8:00 p.m. There will also be an advance poll Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. Homebound voting will also begin today, and those who want a mail-in ballot can arrange to do so by the 25th.

The main polls will be held at four locations across the city. They will be located at McKenna Hall, St. Michael’s School, Assiniboia Park Elementary School, and Souris School. Residents must vote at their designated polling station. The information was sent out in a mailer earlier this month. Those who don’t know which station they are to vote at can check with the returning officer, Donette Richter, at City Hall. The contact number is 306-848-3209.

In order to be eligible to vote in the municipal election, one must be a Canadian citizen, and over the age of 18. Voters must also have resided in Saskatchewan for the past six months, and Weyburn for the past three.

While advance polls and special polls are being held ahead of the election, those numbers will not be counted until the main polls close on October 26th at 8:00 p.m. Discover Weyburn will have live coverage of the election that evening, and will provide up-to-date results on the election
