A rally will be taking place in Regina on April 4th, calling on the federal government to make some changes many are calling for here in Saskatchewan.

Blair Stewart is the CEO of Stewart Southern Railway, and one of those behind the rally.

He explained they have four points they want to get across, loud and clear.

“We’re against the carbon tax, we need to build the pipelines, we need to kill bill C-69, and kill bill C-48,” Stewart explained at a meeting of the organizers Thursday morning. “Those two bills are really the reason why the pipelines have been stalled, or really, basically shut down.”

The rally will include a convoy from southeast Saskatchewan and many other parts of the province.

Stewart explained the argument against a carbon tax isn’t against being a good steward of the land. Rather, it is against a tax which would be applied, in essence, to everything we do.

“It doesn’t matter what walk of life you are in, at the end of the day, transportation touches everything, so if we’re taxing transportation, and not only the carbon tax but then we put the GST on top of that, that adds another cost,” Stewart said. He added he understands the point behind the tax, but it isn’t the best way to affect the changes people are looking for.
