The Federal and Provincial Governments announced key funding for ongoing research into crop development.

Ralph Goodale, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced $7.7 million in funding for 30 crop-related research projects through Saskatchewan’s Agriculture Development Fund.

Stewart says the money will go towards projects that are timely issues.

"Like fusarium, head blade and durum," he said. "Clubroot and canola developing pet food and fish food uses for faba beans things of that nature that will add to the farmer's bottom line and the provinces net exports to the end."

Also, the governments are committing $6.25 million in operating funds through the ADF to the Crop Development Centre (CDC) at the University of Saskatchewan over five years.

Producer commodity groups and the Western Grains Research Foundation are also putting in $1.4 Million of new funding for nine crop-related research projects.

Some of the projects receiving funding include pest monitoring and disease management, accelerating cropping production systems, nutrient management, soil health, fertilizer recommendations and genome
