SaskCanola held their AGM earlier this week in Saskatoon.

One of the keynote speakers at the event was the Tornado Hunter Greg Johnson.

Johnson, who lives in Regina, says farmers and storm chases are a lot alike, they depend on the weather and tend to be risk takers.

"If nobody took that chance on new technologies we would still be where we were thirty years ago," he said. "As we all know in agriculture the technology has changed so much over the last thirty years; we're way more efficient in producing better crops with fewer inputs than we ever did and that's just amazing thing for me that's what risk-taking is all about."

He adds this year is similar to producers, in the spring that’s when he’s going out spending money, travelling, tracking storms and taking pictures.

He says when he talks about risk people automatically assume he’s talking about risking his life because he’s a storm chaser.

Then his harvest is in the fall that’s when he’s marketing images and stories, and in the winter he’s planning ahead as to what he’ll do different next year and what new technology is available.
