It was a jam packed weekend in Saskatoon as they hosted the Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards and we got to bring you all the fun thanks to Radio Row!

First, a huge shout out to Lisa Moen who not only entertains (and was nominated as Female Vocalist of the Year and Country Music Person of the year) but set this whole thing up. Thanks for having us Lisa!

The day started out with Aces Wyld, a three man group from Saskatoon. They were up for Group of the Year and were notably excited to be nominated at home.

"There's so many great groups here in the province, so many great musicians, just to be recognized and be put in that category is is really very humbling. And on home turf it's perfect.".

Next we were introduced to the darling Darlene Tuleta, from Melfort. It wasn't her first run at the SCMA's but she was excited to be there just the same.

"A lot of us have been doing this together for a long time and some of us this is where we've met and you make that connection and it's family. Everyone is friends and family so it's really good to see everybody every year".

Darlene was nominated for Video of the Year for her single "Covered in Dust", as well as Fan Choice Entertainer and Female Vocalist of the Year, losing all three slots to Jess Moskaluke.

There were also a few Roots artists who came our way, including Creek City out of Swift Current. This group is made up of four gentlemen, two of whom have

gone head to head at the SCMA's before.

"We decided head to head wasn't working so we joined forces," laughed one of the members, Steve. "It's always nice to be part of a bigger group that has the same goal and is there for the fun of music. It's nice to be in that atmosphere with like minded people."

Their album "Chronicals" was nominated for Roots Album of the Year.

Ultimately though, it was Glenna Switzer who took that category for her album "A Long Time Comin".

We also got introduced to Carl Crane, who was up for Aboriginal Artist of the Year, the category with the least amount of nominees. Carl said it was an honour to be among the three chosen, but "would like to see more out there."

That award went to Roland Corrigal.

Alex Runions also jumped in for a quick visit. He was nominated for Male Vocalist (which went to Brody Siebert) and Fan Choice Entertainer (Jess Moskaluke).

"You know it's great. It's an honour to be nominated, it feels really cool. Being recognized by your peers and getting some nominations is really cool."

It was also a nice surprise when Codie Prevost showed up! We got a huge hug from Codie, who comes to Weyburn regularly for the Night Out for Cystic Fibrosis, although he won't be able to make it this year .Codie lost in both his categories, Fan Choice Entertainer and Male Vocalist, but was also honoured and excited to be nominated as a songwriter, as his song "Collide" (performed by Brock Andrews) was nominated for several awards.

"I aways wrote songs because I needed them for an album I was working on. So it's got me starting to think, maybe I should write more," joked Prevost. "It's amazing though. We tour around all year with shows like the one in Weyburn, the Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser, we get to work with people like Mike and Cara at all our events and that's what makes it so fun, the people."

Another band with Weyburn connections showed up with hugs, The Hunter Brothers! We had been dancing to their latest single "Getaway" on the way to Saskatoon and were very happy to see the boys (who played the AM1190 Backyard Barbecue this summer) once again.

They were nominated for three awards, winning Group of the Year and Emerging Artist.

"It's a humbling experience to be here in the first place but to also be up for the actual awards. As fellow artists, we root for each other so we're just excited to hang out with everybody. It's that common bond that we all have in music."

The boys will be back in Weyburn next March as part of the Weyburn Concert Series.

"We are super excited, the Cugnet Centre, March 6th 2018, we can't wait to come out for an actual concert series

performance, we're looking forward to it."

And the day wrapped up in the best possible way, with Weyburn's own Tenille Arts!

It's been a whirlwind year for Tenille, as she moved to Nashville, recorded a new EP and released "What He's Into", which took her on a nation wide adventure.

Tenille noted that she is working on even more new music and has another single in the works.

"We've already recorded nine new songs in Nashville, I'm pumped, I just want all the music out there," said Tenille. "To have my album nominated is the coolest thing in the world because essentially I took my entire life to make that first EP so it's really cool to be nominated for that."

Tenille will be back in Weyburn for the Night Out for Cystic Fibrosis, an event dear to her heart.

"On May 26, I'll be back in Weyburn with Private Drive, I'm so excited, those guys are awesome and I'm just looking forward to having a really fun show with them. Tickets are on sale so if people are wanting to get tickets, you can get tickets on my Facebook."

Did I mention she was also a winner? Her debut EP "Tenille Arts" won album of the year! Way to go Tenille!

That's a wrap folks! Thanks to the SCMA for having us, can't wait to do it again next year!
