Members of the Weyburn Agricultural Society will be working non-stop for the next few months.

The 109th Weyburn Fair is fast approaching and volunteers are working to get everything ready.

"We did lose our midway but it's kind of been a blessing in disguise," said president Jeff Clay. "We've gone out and we're trying a bunch of new things."

The community felt the shock of its fair not having the same midway it had for the past 20-some years and members of the Weyburn Ag Society have been busy trying to fill the void.

However, Clay believes what they have lined up will be worthwhile.

"Everything has some meaning behind it," he said. "You put your heart and soul into this stuff and you just want it to be the best success it can."

Some of the events at the 2017 Weyburn Fair, running July 3-5, includes:

  • Agility Dogs sponsored by Pet Valu
  • Big Sky midway rides
  • Bouncy-houses
  • Laser tag
  • Zorb balls
  • Monster truck rides
  • Mounted shooters
  • Chuck wagon and chariot races
  • 4H Show & Sale
  • Jackpot show
  • Farrier contest
  • Petting zoo
  • Beverage gardens
  • Guinness World Record attempt happening (details remain limited on this for the time being)
  • Rumble in the Ring
  • Lawn mower races
  • Dunk tank
  • Food vendor alleyway

Clay explained, putting on a fair is no easy task. Just running the entrance gates alone takes up to 72 volunteers.

"Most everybody on the board has full time job and we are doing this after hours and weekends and we're taking time away from our families to put on an event for everybody else's' families," he added.
