For the first time in 13 days, the number of new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan exceeded the number of recoveries. This resulted in the number of active cases going up to 1,408.

Across the province, there were 179 new cases of COVID-19 and 141 recoveries. There was one death also reported – a person in the 50-59 age group in the Regina zone.

The new cases that were reported were spread throughout the province, with a majority of them in the Saskatoon and Regina areas. There were 38 new cases in Saskatoon and 27 in Regina. There were 21 new cases on the North West zone, 19 in the South Central zone, 18 in the South East and North Central zones, 11 in the South West zone, 10 in the Central East zone, five in the Far North West, Far North East and North East zones and two in the Central West zone.

With the report of the new cases, the seven-day average is now 129, or 10.5 per 100,000 people. There are 113 people who are in hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19, the fewest since November 28th. Of the people in the hospital, 24 are in intensive care.

The update released Saturday afternoon reported another 12,923 doses of COVID-19 vaccine being administered in the province. With the increase, there has now been 65 percent of those over the age of 18 who have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

It was also announced Saturday those who are 70 or older can now receive their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, as well as those who received their first dose before March 15th. Those who have been diagnosed with, or are being treated for, cancer as well as those who have received solid organ transplants will receive a letter of eligibility for priority access to a second dose.
