Calling all animal lovers, those with board experience, and hopefully some with a mix of both.

If you've been wanting to join the board for the Weyburn Humane Society, an event is coming up next week you won't want to miss. They'll be holding their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, January 11th.

Board Member Randy Bakaluk said the public is welcome.

"All the positions on the board will be up for election," he said. "So if you're interested even in that, you can submit your name. If not, you can just come and find out what's going on with us."

"We're presently filling each position on the executive which are the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Recording Secretary, and all are two-year terms," Bakaluk explained. "But this past year we had a couple of board members that had to leave for personal reasons and so it's because of that and one of the positions is actually up for reelection this year, all the positions will be open for new people to take the positions."

He said while the board-level of commitment isn't for everyone, they are always looking for volunteers.

"We're trying to recover from COVID-19 like all the other nonprofits have been doing, so we're always looking for new people."

Bakaluk shared some of the highlights of being on their board.

"You develop new contacts and friendships with the people that are of like-minded, which is looking after our animals and it gets you out," he noted. "We're looking at everybody like we've had people that have been on previous boards. We've had people that were brand new at it and the new ones they learned, and the veterans learn from the new people for their ideas, so it's we like to have a mix."

"Our number one goal right now is to try to get that new shelter. So we're looking for people that are of that mind also to help us. Because you never have enough people to work on that. And if you are even interested in that, come on out to the meeting, hear what we've got to report, and give your suggestions."

The AGM will be held in the meeting room at the Weyburn Travelodge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11th.
