Community Agency applications officially opened on January 10th for the 42nd annual Weyburn Communithon, a community event that supports a number of local agencies.

The application deadline is February 20th at 4:00 p.m.

Raven Daer, Outreach Coordinator with Envision Counselling and Support Centre and Communications Chair for Communithon, explained exactly what Communithon is.

"It's a live televised annual event and it is held every year that raises funds for local agencies within Weyburn and community."

"Organizations in Weyburn and area that are interested in receiving funding from the Communithon, are able to complete a form with the United Way of Regina. They can send those over to Kristen Gushuliak, and I do have her e-mail, it's kgushuliak@unitedwayregina.ca

Daer outlined the eligibility criterion that organizations must meet, in alignment with the United Way focus areas.

"All that kids can be, poverty to possibility, and healthy people, strong communities, as well as having the criteria that they will be using the funds in the Weyburn area."

"Specifically, they must be incorporated under provincial or national jurisdiction, they must be a registered charity in Canada and they will assign a representative to the Communithon Committee. So, any agency that is receiving funding from the Communithon must actually have volunteers that will work throughout the year to ensure that Communithon is able to go off smoothly and be possible."

She said that the 42nd annual Communithon is tentatively scheduled for October 27th, 2023, but they are starting the volunteer stages right now.

"The volunteers work tirelessly right up until October, putting in many, many hours to make sure that this event is possible again."

Daer said if anyone is interested in learning more or joining the Communithon committee, they will be releasing information on their "Communithon" Facebook and Instagram pages very soon, and you can check them out at communithon.com

"We are always looking for new members to join our committee and help out, just to volunteer within the community."
