The Weyburn Beavers suffered a setback in Okotoks Monday night. In front of a Canada Day crowd of 5,040, the Beavers fell 8-4, losing their second game in a row. It is the first time this season the Beavers have dropped back-to-back games. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 18-6 on the season. They still hold a ½ game edge on the Regina Red Sox for first in the Eastern Division.

The Beavers opened the game with two runs, as Garrett Perez and Justin Summers scored when Cory Wills reached base on an error by the first baseman. Okotoks got a run back in the bottom of the first with a solo home run.

The Beavers added to the lead in the fourth inning when Tyler Scott cashed in Ryan Gaab with a single. The two-run lead would shrink to just one in the bottom of the fourth, as a sacrifice fly from Brett Esau made it a 3-2 game.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Beavers would add to the lead as Jack Barrie hit his league-leading 11th home run, a solo shot with one out.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Dawgs came out swinging. They would score six runs in the inning, giving them an 8-4 lead. From there, the pitching staff of both teams took over.

Weyburn and Okotoks limited the number of hits for the rest of the game, with neither team getting a lot of opportunities to score runs. For the Beavers, they left five runners on base for the remainder of the game, while the bullpen kept the Dawgs off the basepaths.

Darrick Watts was handed the loss in the game, as he gave up five runs in 4 ⅓ innings of work. Jacob Jordan came on in relief in the fifth, and surrendered three runs, including a two-run home run from Esau. Seth Pigg finished the game off, striking out two, and allowing one hit, in three innings of work.

The Beavers and Dawgs will play again Tuesday night in Okotoks.
