The Weyburn Agricultural Society has been raising funds for some time now for a new roof for the Curling Rink.

Today, the Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show stepped up and contributed $25,000 to the cause.

"We're happy today to be able to donate $25,000 to help with the new roof on the Curling Rink," said Vice Chair Shane Pollock. "The facility is really important for Weyburn and the surrounding communities, not only for curling but all the other community events that are here. So the oil show uses a lot of the buildings here when we have our shows."

The next Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show will run June 1st and 2nd of 2022.

"So unfortunately due to COVID we had to cancel it and now we're on the the odd year, but happy that'll go forward in 2022," he added.

"I really want to thank the oil show for donating the money and it's gonna gonna benefit all of Weyburn, to to keep the rink in good shape," said TJ Metheral, past President of the Ag Society. "As you know, our Curling Rink has been used for many different functions. I'm sure most people have been in it at some point. Whether it's for a wedding, you know, a trade show, curling, roller derby. We've had lots of different events in this in the rink over the years."

The ice is soon going in for the next curling season.
