For the second year in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays are off to the postseason. They clinched a wildcard berth Sunday afternoon when the Detroit Tigers lost to the Atlanta Braves. The Jays then sealed home field advantage for the single game playoff when they beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1, in Boston, in the final game of the season.

Aaron Sanchez took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, before it was broken up by a disputed home run from Boston’s Hanley Ramirez with two outs. The ball went over the foul pole above the Green Monster. Umpires reviewed the replay, and upheld the original call of a home run, which tied the game up. Sanchez would give up just one more single, ending his day with one run, two walks, and six strikeouts. His ERA of 3.00 was the lowest in the AL for the season.

The Blue Jays offense came from a solo homer from Devon Travis in the fifth inning. It was followed up when Troy Tulowitzki hit a single in the eighth with runners on first and third. The run would prove to be all that was needed for the Jays to secure the win.

Toronto will now open the playoffs with the wildcard game at Rogers Centre Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles. The winner of the one game showdown will advance to the AL Divisional Series against the Texas Rangers, which begins Thursday in Arlington. You will be able to catch the game Tuesday live on Saskatchewan’s Home of Blue Jays Baseball, AM1190.
