The May Long Weekend is here, and many are heading out to go camping for the weekend. This means the regional parks in the area will be busy, as people get out for the unofficial start to summer.

There are a number of restrictions to keep in mind with some of the parks this year, as the lack of rain has resulted in fire bans in a number of rural municipalities and communities in southeast Saskatchewan.

Nickle Lake

The closest regional park to Weyburn, they opened for their season campers last weekend, to give them the chance to get out and set up for the season. Located with the R.M. of Weyburn, they are affected by the fire ban. Additionally, as they have many years in the past, there will be a ban on alcohol at Nickle Lake. Similar bans are in place at provincial parks in the province, and many regional parks.

Mainprize

Just west of Midale, Mainprize is open for the season this weekend as well. As the R.M. of Cymri has a fire ban in place, the ban applies to the park as well. The park will not be enforcing an alcohol ban this year, though. Additionally, the golf course is open.

Radville-Laurier

The park in Radville is open for the season and ready to welcome campers looking to experience the great outdoors. Radville-Laurier won’t be putting an alcohol ban into place for the weekend. As well, they are benefitting from being within the town of Radville, as there will not be a fire ban in place at the campground for the weekend. This could change, however.

Provincial Parks

All provincial parks south of the Churchill River are currently under a fire ban. As well, the parks will be enforcing an alcohol ban at all parks.
