It is something one doesn’t often hear about in the City of Weyburn. A badger has been spotted within the city limits.

“There was a badger that was identified on the north side of the city, by 18th Street and the walking path,” explained Curtis Block, the Parks Co-ordinator with the City of Weyburn. “The badger is there, likely hunting gophers.”

Block said the city’s pest control personnel are currently attempting to trap the badger, and then relocate it to outside of the city limits.

While efforts are underway to trap the badger, the public is asked to stay out of the area. While badgers primarily eat smaller animals such as gophers and squirrels, they have been known to be aggressive towards humans, especially when cornered. Additionally, having the public in the area can make things more difficult for pest control staff as they attempt to locate the wily animal.
