It has been a mild autumn so far, but cooler conditions are expected to arrive in Weyburn next week.

The week will begin with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 8 on Monday.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang said while next week will be colder than it has been lately, it will warm up a bit the following week.

“It is fall, so we do expect these seesaw type of patterns just because we're starting to get that battle between the cold air to the north and there's still the warmer air to the South,” Lang said. “We are in quite a warm pattern for the next few days because a big upper ridge that's been so persistent over the last couple of months is finally starting to move, and then it'll break down. So, it looks like it'll start breaking down towards the weekend, meaning we'll start getting into cooler temperatures.”

Lang added while there is a better chance of precipitation, it doesn’t look like we can expect snow quite yet.

“We will get into more seasonal temperatures and average highs for this time of year. For the last 30 years, highs around 10 and overnight lows around minus three, so we've really just been in the bonus warm air for the last little while.”

Along with the colder weather next week, Lang said we can expect overnight frosts.

“The average first frosts are actually in September, so we’re well into the season and it held off for a long time, so the frosts were actually quite late this year.”

She added with the mild weather, this is a good time to prepare your yard for winter and to get your winter tires ready.
