Conservation Officers are currently investing a poaching incident, which occurred a couple of weeks ago just 10 miles north of Pangman on Highway 6.

The incident involved a substantial number of game bird carcasses being dumped near some grain elevators.

"On the morning of October 9th, we got a call from the landowner, who was out there looking at some of his bales, and found that somebody had dumped a whole bunch of water fowl at that location, in amongst a bunch of bales," explained Conservation Officer with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Lindsey Leko.

He said they hadn't been there the previous evening.

"What happens is, an individual or group of individuals go out bird hunting, which there is an open season for, especially with water fowl, and they went out and they shot a bunch of birds."

He said along with the hunting comes the responsibility involved in making sure that they're cleaned and and utilized.

"And whoever did this, didn't do that."

Leko noted there were even some Great Canadian Geese in the mix of carcasses, which could have gone to a food bank, if they had been properly cleaned and breasted.

"I think a lot of it's just, you know, the guys just like knocking the birds out of the out of the sky, but they don't like the work that's involved in having to dress them and and properly clean them," he commented.

"It's just a waste, right? And things like this give hunters a real bad name."

Leko added, "so, you know, these these guys weren't hunters. These guys were these guys were poachers. These guys just wanted to go out and shoot and kill and and then go off and maybe do some more, just not follow through with the responsibilities associated with ethical hunting."
