Weyburn’s City Council will be meeting tonight at City Hall, their first regular meeting of the month.

The highlight of the meeting will be the appointment of the 2018-19 Youth Council. The youth council was created earlier this year, with the first youth mayor being Landon Field. The council discusses issues themselves, and then it is brought to the City Council.

Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy said in October of the youth council concept the hope is for students to have more buy-in with the city.

“Then we're not just raising our kids up to move away from the City and go somewhere else,” Roy said back in October. “When they get ownership of the City then they'll want to get their education and come back and stay, and work and prosper in the city.”

The meeting will also entertain a delegation from Envision. They will be discussing a sponsorship proposal, similar to one presented in recent years to Estevan, Carlyle, Stoughton and the R.M. of Weyburn.

There will be regular monthly reports presented, including the Water Treatment Plant report, and the council will also discuss home-based occupation permits for a number of businesses.

The meeting starts at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.

We will have full coverage of the meeting tomorrow morning, on air, and online.
