Back before Weyburn City Council tonight is a topic met with much controversy - a discretionary use permit from the Liquor Spot.

The owners are once again applying to open up at the location of the former Olympia Fitness gym, which is immediately adjacent to the Calvary Baptist Community Church.

In spite of many objections from the surrounding community, the City's administration and Council have been working with both parties to try to reach a compromise.Planning and Development Coordinator Janine Fletcher is recommending approval with conditions.

Among the other items on the agenda are proposed changes to the procedures bylaw for Weyburn city council introduced during the last meeting in October, which would designate someone to call a special meeting of council if the position of Clerk is vacant or the Clerk is unable to act. It also would add the provision of holding council meetings electronically, as this technically hadn't been made official yet.

Council will reverse the order of the City Council and Strategic Planning & Priorities (SP&P) meetings to adjust the beginning time of the SP&P meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and to move the City Council start time from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
