A new outdoor pool is currently under construction in the town of Ogema.

“We’ve been looking at doing this for the past couple of years,” explained Kyle Leonard, the chair of the Ogema Regional Park Authority. “We were actually prepared to start construction last year. We had fundraising in place, but unfortunately, the world got turned on its head.”

The new pool will replace the existing outdoor swimming facilities at Ogema Regional Park. Originally, there were three pools – a paddling pool, a pool for swimming, and a pool for diving. The paddling pool had been closed a few years back. This new facility will bring them all into one pool.

“It’s one entire pool with a nice beach entry, so there’s lots of room for kids to play and just splash around,” Leonard added.

The construction on the pool started in mid-September, and the crews have been working to take advantage of the weather, with construction still underway here in late October.

Funding for the project came from the provincial and federal governments, as well as the municipal government and local fundraising endeavours. In all, roughly $826,000 was split between the levels of government for the construction of the pool.

The work is slated to be wrapped up by next summer, with a planned grand opening of July 1st.
