Gasoline theft can add up over time. This is something SaskEnergy has learned, according to a recent report of public losses generated by the Ministries and Treasury Board Crowns and the Crown Investment Corporation (CIC) for the period of April 1st to June 30th.

SaskEnergy reported an employee misappropriating gasoline for personal use during the operation of fleet vehicles over a 15-year period to the tune of $30,431. The employee's termination is now under review by the Unifor grievance process. A technical solution is being applied to increase the data available for vehicle monitoring, and additional follow up protocols are being developed.

In March 2019, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure reported a loss of $4,998 due to an employee using a ministry purchase card for personal use. That employee has been terminated and the infraction reported to the authorities. The ministry is pursuing recovery of the loss, with $2,941 recovered to date.

An infraction was reported from the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Program (SATCC) in March. A loss of $11,889 was reported after an employee took registration applications and fees from clients, but did not submit them to the SATCC. The employee has resigned, and the authorities have been notified. So far, $1,485 has been recovered.
