The Estevan Bruins didn't get the help they needed on Tuesday at the 2022 Centennial Cup.

A 9-1 Brooks win over Pickering followed by a 6-1 College Francais du Longueuil victory over Red Lake officially squashed any playoff scenarios that would see the Bruins advance to the quarterfinals.

Their season will come to an end on Wednesday against the Bandits in what promises to be a very emotional night at Affinity Place.

Brooks has clinched first place in the pool and have a direct bye to the semi-finals. Pickering will finish in second spot followed by Longueuil at third. The Miners saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as they fell to 0-4 to conclude their tournament.

Meanwhile, playoff spots and seedings are still on the line in Pool B. The Flin Flon Bombers picked up a massive shootout win 2-1 over the Dauphin Kings Tuesday afternoon, which will send the Bombers through to the playoff round.

"I think that winning games like this, especially under the circumstances where we needed to win, I think is big for our confidence and our belief that we've got a real shot at this thing," said Flin Flon head coach Mike Reagan.

With the Bruins eliminated, some Estevan fans appear to be backing the Bombers, who are the lone SJHL representatives still standing.

"We spent a lot of time here in Estevan, and we've met some great people and they've treated us great and we love the support," Reagan said.

"I think that we've kind of won them over with our heart and commitment through game 7 (of the SJHL finals) and that sort of thing. But it's nice to know that people are going to back you from our league, and we would do the same thing."

On tap

The final day of the round robin will start with a crucial game between Summerside and Ottawa, with the winner most likely advancing to the playoffs, while the loser could be eliminated, depending on if the game goes to overtime or not.

Meanwhile Dauphin can clinch first place in Group B with a win over the Soo Thunderbirds later in the afternoon.

And in the evening, one final swan song for the graduating players on the Estevan Bruins as they clash with the high-flying Brooks Bandits to wrap up the preliminary round.
