A small crowd gathered yesterday to remember the 27 Saskatchewan workers who were killed on the job this year, as well as all who were injured. There was a short ceremony organized by the Weyburn and District Labour Council, with the laying of a wreath at the memorial stone located behind the Tommy Douglas Centre.

"The national day of mourning has been recognized since December 1990 which is when the federal government declared it a national day of mourning and it's always observed on April 28th," explained Wanda Bartlett, president of the Weyburn and District Labour Council.

Bartlett said it is everyone's responsibility to be mindful of their work environment to make sure everyone gets home safe at the end of the day.
