Crews are on the scene today beginning the demolition of the old landmark, which served as a school for more than 100 years.

Yesterday we told you about how the upturn in weather conditions has finally allowed the demolition crews to prepare to bring down the old Souris School.

While the abatement of asbestos and other hazardous materials was completed earlier in November, the larger-than-life heavy machinery arrived on the scene yesterday, with the old play structures being removed on day one.

While no dust was flying just yet yesterday, today the big machines are in full swing, and the entire project will take upwards of three weeks to complete.

Zane Bednaz with Adair's Demolition & Excavating said any materials that can be recycled will be, including the bricks and any metal.
