Not often does one hear grumbling about wearing blue jeans to work. In fact, dress-down Fridays is a common morale-booster in the workplace, and the Weyburn Credit Union is asking businesses to do just that, for a worthwhile cause.

“So, basically what we're doing is we're asking businesses to get on board, and they can invite their employees to or the businesses can make a donation on their behalf,” said VP of Marketing, Tana Torkelson.

The sign-up commitment is $25 per person.

“That's $5 every Friday because there's five Fridays in May, and then they can wear jeans every Friday for that month,” she explained.

Torkelson shared the inspiration behind the Denim for Donations initiative.

“This is a big year for the Credit Union and for Envision. While we're turning 75, Envision is actually turning 25,” she explained. “So their birthday is in May. We are working with the Weyburn Oilwomen to do something special to help them celebrate their birthday and what we're doing is a city-wide dress-down month in support of them.”

She noted that Envision does such amazing work in our community, yet they are too often overlooked.

“We just wanted to bring awareness to that community group and by wearing jeans, then, of course, we're raising much-needed funding for that organization as well,” said Torkelson. “So it's really a win-win for Envision and the businesses as well, because then they're seen as a community-minded organization that's supporting those important groups in our community.”
