For the first time since 2009, the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles football team has captured a league championship. Saturday afternoon, the Eagles downed the Yorkton Regional School Raiders 21-7 to capture the 5A Rural South Championship, setting up a game in the provincial semifinals next weekend. This is the first 5A Rural Championship for the Eagles. Their previous league championships were won when WCS played in the Regina Intercollegiate Football League.

The Eagles were led by Ben Manning. He scored two touchdowns and added two interceptions in the victory. The third TD of the game from the Eagles was scored by Ben Michel.

The title comes in the first season running the bench for Chris Michel, who took over when Darren Abel stepped down after the 2019 season.

With the win, the Eagles will now get set to host the champions from Saskatoon in the provincial semifinals next weekend. Bishop Mahoney will make the trek down to the Opportunity City next Saturday to play the Eagles at Darold Kot Field.
