The southeast will be well represented when the SaskFirst Female U16 tournament opens up in Regina Friday morning. The tournament will see 136 of the best U16 female hockey players in Saskatchewan participating.

After the selection camp held in the winter, eight players from the U15 AA Whitecap Resource Gold Wings were selected for the tournament.

Weyburn’s Bostyn Runge, a forward, is playing on Team Green. Goaltender Amy Swayze (Weyburn) is on Team Black and is joined by teammates Rayna Hennie (Weyburn) and Adison Warren (Tyvan) who are on defence. Also on Team Black, playing forward is Ella Schenher (Weyburn).

Addison Greve (Weyburn) will be playing defence on Team Gold, while Hadley Gerle (Weyburn) and Brooke McKinnon (Bienfait) will be playing forward with Team Orange.

The players aren’t the only representation for the southeast. Kipling’s Makenna Marton has been selected to work the event as an official, and Weyburn’s Alex Clarke is one of the Official Coaches.

As for the coaches at the event, Weyburn’s Jenica Whitrow will be coaching Team Green and Weyburn’s Jordan Szczecinski will be behind the bench for Team Blue.

The tournament starts with practices Friday morning, and the games begin Friday afternoon. The tournament wraps up with the finals Sunday.
