Weyburn’s Dylan Ernst made his mark in the WHL last night, earning his first WHL shutout.

While the netminder has already picked up wins with the Kamloops Blazers, he has stepped up to fill in as the starter while Dylan Garand is off to the World Junior Championships. This had Ernst in goal Wednesday night as the Blazers entertained the Victoria Royals.

Ernst wouldn’t be tested often, facing just nine shots all night. The quality of those shots, though, meant some quality saves had to be made.

In the first period, he stopped Royals forward Evan Patrician on a breakaway. Then in the third, he robbed Bailey Peach in close to preserve the shutout.

Ernst is expected to carry the bulk of the work for the Blazers until Garand returns to the lineup from the Worl Junior squad.
