The Family Place is bringing back it's Garage Sale in May! They couldn't have it for the past few years due to Covid-19 but are very excited to bring it back.

We spoke with Dawn Gutzke she is the Executive Director for the Family Place about the upcoming event,

"The Garage Sale has been an annual event for many years here in Weyburn. We haven't had it the past few years obviously due to Covid-19 but we're looking forward to having it again for the first time in the last few years hopefully it's a really big event for us."

The Garage Sale is run strictly off donations from the community and surrounding areas and they will be accepting more donations,

"We are accepting donations Sunday, May 1st from noon to four at the curling rink, Monday, May 2nd from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the curling rink, and Tuesday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the curling rink. So if anyone has anything to donate items they've collected or doing some spring cleaning purging around the house we would love to have your donations. If you bring them down to the curling rink for us and help us out with our event that would be awesome."

They are always needing volunteers to help out with the event as well.

"We always need lots of volunteers for the event to help sort items and get things ready for the Garage Sale so if anyone would like to volunteer we would love to have you. You can call us at 842-7477 and ask for Judy and she'll let you know some times available for some volunteer opportunities."

But where and when is this all going down?

"The Garage Sale will take place at the Weyburn curling rink and the main event will start Tuesday, May 3rd the doors will open at 5 p.m. and there's always a big rush and line up so make sure you get there early. We will run the sale until 8 p.m. that night and then we will open again the next day Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.."

The fun does not end there it gets better there will even be a smoke shack to order food from!

"We're going to be having a canteen and were going to have Homestead Smoke Shack there. His name is Grant Stinson he's actually been a long-term volunteer for the Family Place for many many years so he has a homestead smoke shack and he's going to be set up outside. All proceeds from the menu food will be going to the family Place."

With all the money made going directly to the Family Place here's what will be on the menu,

"He's going to have a brisket sandwich with a side of his smoked beans, a pulled pork sandwich with a side of smoked beans, or a cheeseburger and hot dogs. So come on down to the Garage Sale even if you're not a Garage Sale shopper and make sure you get in on the yummy food."

So come on out on May third from five to eight at the Weyburn curling rink and get your hands on some goodies and fill those bellies all while supporting a great cause.
