The Family Place re-opened their doors roughly one month ago and now they are confirming the return of one of their biggest events of the year.

"Festival of Trees is coming up," said Executive Director Dawn Gutzke. "We've been doing a lot of talking and thinking, especially over the summer too, we knew it was coming and it is our biggest fundraiser that we rely on so we wanted to be very careful about how we move forward with it so just weighing all our options and still with so many restrictions going on we have decided that we are going to move our festival to an online fundraiser this year."

The annual event normally sees local businesses, organizations and individuals setting up and decorating Christmas Trees which are then auctioned off at a huge gala event. With current Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines in place, that style of event wasn't feasible this year.

"We don't have all the details but we do know that, to host it live and restrict it to thirty people and who knows what the restrictions are in November, we can't really predict the future, so we just decided to play it safe but we need to move ahead and start planning. So we are going to move the fundraiser to an online event this year," Gutzke said. "It will just be a bit different and we're really hoping that the community is okay with that."

Gutzke didn't have any further details but promised to keep the community informed going forward.
