Weyburn's Brett Ferguson is now the District 3 Director for the Federated Coop (FCL) Board.

Ferguson joined the board of the Prairie Sky Co-op in 2013.

"It's something that's kind of always intrigued me, and I try to be involved as much as I can be, and then this seemed like a great opportunity with some retiring directors who have known in the past and thought I would show some interest by throwing my name in the hat and next thing you know, here we are."

The District 3 territory, he said, covers southern Saskatchewan up to just south of Foam Lake.

While most of the meetings have been virtul, they'll be holding one this week in person at the FCL headquarters in Saskatoon.

"There's a guy on Vancouver Island, so he's got a little bit more of a trip to make than I do."

Ferguson said his responsibilities include being accountable to all the retail locations in District 3.

"I'd be accountable for what federated decisions would be, so to compare it to what our local Co-op here is, they are accountable to the members, they're making decisions that are best in the members of the Weyburn area, so we would be making the decisions that would be best for the members as each retail Co-op in western Canada," he explained.

He said he is also approving budgets and setting strategic initiatives.

"So if there was a question from a retail regarding a governance type issue, if it's a supply or kind of an operation thing, they have a team of lots of people that can address those ones with the logistics, and that's kind of the big issues of today is getting everything there's the supply issues," he noted.

Ferguson said there are three meetings a year that he will attend, and cover big topics like, "the Husky purchase that they're doing with all the 160 gas stations. I don't think it affects us too much here since there isn't any Huskies, but it's kind of things like that."

He added that, "there will be a lot of exciting announcements coming up here".
