Sporting a perfect 1–0 record entering tonight, the Red Wings play host to the winless Melville Millionaires (0–1–1) at 7:30 p.m. The Wings will play their second game of the season at Crescent Point Place, before making their first roadie on Friday.

Melville comes to town after being swept by Estevan on the opening weekend. They lost their home opener 5–4 in a shootout and then fell 7–4 the following night in Estevan. Keeping pucks out of their net will be key tonight against the high-flying Weyburn attack. Melville returned just three defencemen from last season, but all played significant minutes a year ago.

In goal, Colby Entz is a returning 20-year-old who will be counted on this season. He had a weekend to forget after getting pulled after just seven shots on Saturday night. He's rocking a 5.8 goals against average and a .848 save percentage.

Attacking the inexperienced backend of Melville is where the key lies for Weyburn. Controlling the play and maximizing puck possession is something they didn't do for much of the game against Yorkton, but with the first game jitters out of the way perhaps the Wings will be able to play a more complete game. Their top six forwards should be able to overpower Melville and if they can pounce on Entz early it might rattle him like what happened in Estevan.

"They play a trap — it's the same system they played last year. It's tough to find open ice, but if we compete hard and work hard we should be fine. Our skill should be able to find holes and gaps in their system for sure," Head coach Wes Rudy said.

Getting to the powerplay will also be crucial for the Red Wings success. They had just three opportunities with the man advantage in game one, the second lowest in the league. They scored on one of those chances though, and the Millionaires have killed off just 66 percent of their penalties. I'm sure Head Coach Wes Rudy will preach working hard at both ends of the ice to not only draw penalties but to stay out of the box themselves. Weyburn was shorthanded seven times versus Yorkton.

Lastly, defensive awareness will be crucial to keeping pucks out of the Weyburn net. Riley Lamb was sensational in goal, but the defence has to tighten up and limit breakaways and odd-man rushes.

"We didn't identify speed on the ice. We showed a lot of video with d-men about respecting speed and know who's the dangerous guy on the ice and identify that," Rudy said.

Following a few dust-ups over the weekend, Melville could have one or two players suspended for tonight's contest. There's been no word from the SJHL on disciplinary action.

PREDICTION: Weyburn 4, Melville 1
