A new Sepak Takraw drop-in program is being offered at the Credit Union Spark Centre this fall and winter.

The sport is extremely popular in Southeast Asian countries. It combines soccer and volleyball, and is played on a badminton court.

“We wanted to diversify our programming to fit the needs of our community,” Leisure Services Manager, Ryan Dale said. “The Credit Union Spark Center is a multicultural facility that everyone is welcome to and all sports can thrive within. Creating a space for Sepak Takraw is a great way to offer a new activity to our community that they can use to develop new skills and social skills, and meet others in our community.”

The program will run on Friday evenings from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The City of Weyburn is hosting an introduction to the sport with the Sepak Takraw Association of Canada on Friday, September 23rd from 7:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

“It's very easily modified and extremely fun and active, so you do not want to miss out tonight. If you haven't played this sport before, don't be shy. Please come out tonight and give it a try.”

The event will take place in the gym on the second floor, for ages 13 and over. Drop-in rates apply and non-marking shoes are required.
